I'd like to see at least the same efforts put into fuel efficiency and transformation of the industry to focus on easing the demand on oil.
Please.
Instead, what we get is an industry that spends millions to lobby Washington to keep CAFE standards miserably low.
Regulation, boy... I dunno.

Good point. I don't think any of the minivans or SUVs on the market meet CAFE standards if you take their "actual" mileage into account. It's always somewhere on the low end of the city/highway figures.
Their mileage hasn't changed at all in the last 10 years.
Of course, the Gingrich Congress, which was handed over to Hastert, did a marvelous job of basically making it illegal to alter the standards.
