True Believer Dead At 94.
Milton Friedman, the truest believer in unbridled capitalism, has died.
I believe it's been said that Friedman had the ear of three presidents. They would be Nixon, Reagan, and Bush. Not exactly a great track record for economic security.
As much as I have long respected his intellectual genius, I could never understand how any economist could openly endorse (or even suggest) that consumers should be thrown to the dogs of industry.

This is an open response to the people here at 50 miles out...
I have been following local poltics and have become an informed on the probelms that have been a road barrier for the local party. I am hopeing that this can be a useful thread in discussing the future of the democratic party. Understanding the differnce between a progressive and a democratic. Instead of blaming people why don't we focus in on the postives that were gained during this past election. How do we combine resources of the county party and make it for the people of Kendall County!!!
How do we bridge the gaps that have been created and overcome the hurdles that be fall us!!!!
What kind of message can we combine to help the voter understand what the differnce is between a democrat and republican!!!
This is not a judgement being passed put an attempt to bridge the gap here in the county!!!!
2008 will be important and all democrats need to be untied so we can achieve victory!!!!
That is indeed the question. How is it that Friedman could not see that unfettered capitalism has wrought more harm than good for centuries? Did he think we could avoid its evils this time around? Or did he just not care about its victims?
Mr. Boskas....THANK YOU!!! I've been hoping that all of the sniping and bad mouthing will end. It serves no purpose.
There are some in Kendall County (I think - it's hard to say where the anon's are from)...who believe and insist that there is a split in the Democratic Party. I, personnally, believe that there is not. I believe that those who are working with the party structure in Kendall county are doing so with every democratic voter in mind. The organization is building and growing, and is including everyone who wants to be a part of that.
This group of people recognize that there is a tremendous opportunity at hand to welcome and take in all of the voters who are coming to Kendall county. The bickering and feuding has stopped on that end. When unsubstantiated personal attacks are made against friends, it's difficult to not respond. However, I think the smartest move at this point is to leave it alone. There is nothing I would like more than to see some actual debate and discussion about how to make the party grow and how to make it better. It's time to leave the past to history - DONE...
One thing the republicans do much better than democrats is mobilize their base. I believe a lot of that has to do with the fact that Democrats, by and large, are independant thinkers. Democrats don't necessarily "blindly follow" and, contrary to the republicans label of us, we are not "one issue voters". That's one of the reasons it's difficult to mobilize a large democratic base. We are concerned about many different issues and are independent thinkers - that makes it difficult to get a large group on the same page. I also believe that's what leads to healthy debate and consensus. Democrats don't allow leaders to dictate to them - that's a good thing, in my opinion.
Finally, I believe the best way to get the Democrats of this county together is to come up with a group of candidates, willing and qualified, to run for local office first. Once we have some local democrats elected to the County Board, the Oswego Village Board, the Yorkville City Council, the Montgomery Village Board, etc..., all working on a unified platform (as yet to be determined - remember, we're still evloving and hopefully will never stop evolving). We need to get the Democrats of this county excited about local candidates. John Laesch was a great start, but he's bigger than Kendall County - District 14 goes damn near to the Mississippi River. I think we need to start smaller, yet support those with the courage to aim higher (like John Laesch).
This is a good start....
Well a good start would be instead of posting here. Start posting constructive comments on the Kendall Democrats discussion forums.
Good advice anon...can't argue with that.
Tom a couple of questions
What do you define as a qualfied candiate to seek office in Kendall County?
What do you suppose is the Democratic base in this county? What groups make up the base?
Please define the in your own words the local party platform and strutre you would like to see?
Finally Tom please list your own goals of what you would like to see the party accomplish over the next year? Please also explain how the democrats can do a better job of getting our support and message out?
THIS IS A GREAT IDEA AS DEMOCRATS OF KENDALL COUNTY WHAT IS DONE IS DONE HOWEVER WITH THE VOTER TRENDS OF THE COUNTY CHANGING. WITH HOW WELL ALL DEMOCRATS DID THE TIME TO MOVE FORWARD IS NOW. AS A COUNTY PARTY WHAT IS THE BEST DIRECTION OR MODEL TO WORKK TOWARDS TO BUILD A UNITY PARTY FOR THE FUTUTRE.
Come out, come out wherever you are
And meet the young lady who fell from a star
She fell from the sky, she fell very far
And Kansas she says is the name of the star
Kansas she says is the name of the star
She brings you good news, or haven't you heard
When she fell out of Kansas a miracle occurred
It really was no miracle
What happened was just this:
The wind began to switch the house to pitch
And suddenly the hinges started to unhitch
Just then the witch, to satisfy an itch
Went flying on her broomstick thumbing for a hitch
And oh what happened then was rich
The house began to pitch, the kitchen took a slitch
It landed on the wicked witch in the middle of a ditch
Which was not a healthy situation for the wicked witch
The house began to pitch, the kitchen took a slitch
It landed on the wicked witch in the middle of a ditch
Which was not a healthy situation for the wicked witch
Who began to twitch, and was reduced to just a stitch
Of what was once the wicked witch
We thank you very sweetly for doing it so neatly
You've killed her so completely
That we thank you very sweetly
Let the joyous news be spread
The wicked, old witch at last is dead
Ding-dong the witch is dead
Which old witch? The wicked witch
Ding-dong the wicked witch is dead
Wake up you sleepyhead
Rub your eyes, get out of bed
Wake up the wicked witch is dead
She's gone where the goblins go
Below - below - below
Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low
Let them know the Wicked Witch is dead
As mayor of the Munchkin City
In the county of the land of Oz
I welcome you most regally
But we've got to verify it legally
To see...
To see...
If she...
If she...
Is morally, ethically
Spiritually, physically
Positively, absolutely
Undeniably and reliably dead
As Coroner , I thoroughly examined her
And she's not only merely dead
She's really most sincerely dead
Then this is a day of independence for all the munchkins
And their descendants
Yes, let the joyous news be spread
The wicked old witch at last is dead
Ding-dong the witch is dead
Which old witch? The wicked witch
Ding-dong the wicked witch is dead
Wake up you sleepyhead
Rub your eyes, get out of bed
Wake up the wicked witch is dead
She's gone where the goblins go
Below - below - below
Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low
Let them know the Wicked Witch is dead
We represent the Lullaby League
The Lullaby League, the Lullaby League
And in the name of the Lullaby League
We wish to welcome you to Munchkin Land

We wish to welcome you to Munchkin Land
We welcome you to Munchkin Land

Dear Dave W,
You seem to be an authority on being a fuckup. Dear I say that you are one of those young repukes who are out to get the kendall dems... What earth shattering news do the young repukes have... let me guess you are going to kick all the kendall dems asses and then excerise our demons in order to restore the royal line... wonderful take your time and people in hell want ice water... please don't be a stranger and keep us up to date on the young republicant's.
Tom Brophy, you are correct in assuming that a Democratic base within any given area starts from the ground up. With more elected Democrats all around comes more organizations to mobilize. Begin worrying about filling municipal seats, school board, etc. Seek out candidates who are educated and qualified, entrenched in the community, have a record of public service, and can stand up to public scrutiny.
And for God's sake, start thinking about a viable candidate for Hastert's seat when he retires in January. Do you seriously think that Laesch is your best bet or was that some kind of "Democratic solidarity" thing for appearances sake? I can understand the perception of "standing behind our candidates", though I personally find the idea ridiculous. Is that what was going on?
It is very hard for me to believe that people who seem halfway intelligent could honestly believe that Laesch is a good candidate.
Bridget the people have chosen and his name is John Laesch. He will be our next congressman and who ever run's against him will feel the boot. Words to live by and simple as it may be for the rest of you common people John Laesch has not stopped he never admitted defeat and as far as 79,000 voters the work is not done. So to Bridget take your carpet bagger act on the road. We do not need your kind around here in the 14th district.
Super Dave W....
I don't know what you're talking about... Are you saying that because of what I posted regarding the Guy in the picture? The guy who consulted for Nixon, Reagan and Bush? The same guy who consulted Reagan when he touted his trickle down economics?
I'm surprised to see the Kendall County Democrats supporting Freidman, Reagan, Bush & Nixon.
Dave W
Very few people here are actual Kendall Dems. If you really want to discuss what the Kendall Dems are doing you need to go to the Kendall Dems website. If you post on the forums there you will not be called names or denigrated for honest comments. There are a number of people who post there and they will answer your questions in a respectful manner.
This blog is like the old Monty Python skit where you go to an office to have somebody argue with you. You come here just to find somebody to argue with. This is a place to vent the crude, narrow minded and prejudicial side that lurks within us all.
Bridget - our goal is do exactly that - find the qualified candidates for the local offices. There really aren't a lot of "entrenched" potential candidates as this has been such a republican county for so long. Those who are "entrenched" are also those who don't know that there is a Democratic Party (that's the opposite of me when I grew up in Chicago - we only knew Democrats). We're working to find great candidates who are willing to step up and run.
Regarding John Laesch - he is the candidate that was chosen by the majority of the Democratic voters in the 14th District. That's something bigger than the Kendall County Democrats. I think it's only right that I support the Democratic candidate chosen by the majority of the Democrats. We'll never agree on the "quality" of the candidate. I do believe that we may agree that those of us representing the Kendall Democratic Party have a responsibility to support all of the Democratic candidates after the primary election is done. Up until the Democratic Voters make their choice - everything is up for grabs. Oncethat choice is made, I believe we (as democrats)need to get behind the candidate with the nomination. That's something the DNC and the state Democratic Party never did for most candidates. I must admit that Rham's plan worked nationally, but that leaves us "local folks" alone to support the cadidates who aren't considered the "chosen few".
I'm sure Hastert will be gone before he loses his "speaker's pension". I understand that it's worth a lot of money. So, that means we'll have a special election early next year - I love walking my precinct in the snow.... At any rate, we'll see what candidates emerge. I'm sure that John Laesch will be running. I don't know of any other candidate that might be out there. He's already got the campaign material and has his name out across the District. I was all for the primary race in the spring because I was hoping it would turn out more voters (that didn't really happen), however, a primary race at this time would only suck out the resources of the candidates. They will need everything they have to fight the election battle. To be honest, I'm not even sure how that process would work. I don't know if the state party would slate someone in or if there would be a "primary" type election if there were more than one candidate per party going after that seat. I'll have to do my homework.
We'll see what happens...it's not over yet.
Dear Anon. I don't live in Kendall - I live in Batavia, which is Kane County. I couldn't care less about the Kendall Dems any longer - I'm honestly burnt out on the subject. I posted the other in response to the picture of FRIEDMAN not to discuss the Kendall County Dems.
You and everyone else seem to be obsessed with them - so why don't you go to the KCD web page and rant.
Dave W.
Whatever, you seemed like a reasonable guy who was looking for some reasonable discussion. My mistake
Somebdy must be on drugs because I thought the Flowers clan was pretty useless to begin with the fact that these guys are claiming ownership of the party proves what loosers the Birch people must be.
I mean how hard was it to overtake the party and do nothing for 6 months except try to help that Lasech kid loose 60/40 again.
This all really funny and sad at the same time. Here you have Tom Brophy saying that he will not soil his hands because JDL is the second comming and local candiates could never win in this county unless their name is leader birch. All of a sudden it is cool to have local candiates. GEEZ make up your mind already either the people of kendall county deserve a party with local candiates they can support however that rquires building people which takes time instead of supporting carpet baggers and depending on the other counties maybe the camp fire council should go back to the old scrap pile and see if JDL has any buddies who would like to help fill the local ballots.
Anon...
Sorry. I missread your post and must have been in a shitty mood.
Dave W.
Hey anon.."soil" my hands?????....."local candidates could never win in this county unless their name is leader birch"????.....I don't know what kind of crack you're smoking, but nothing like that was ever posted..YOU IDIOT...perhaps you should go back to school and work on your reading comprehension skills.
This really is a waste of time...if you want to have a real discussion, I'll be on the Kendall County Democrats web site.
To everyon else...have a very happy Thanksgiving
tom thanks for the invite i will bring the coolaid so we can all bask in the glory of leader birch. you know the only true democrat that can get elected here in kendall county. oh wait thats right we also have the good ole jdl who can spend 100k and get 12 votes. this is the caliber of candiate that the kendall county progressive democratic party strives for. please keep up the good work on behalf od all the do nothings here in kendall county. with your help we can be assureded to lose yet another election....
happy turkey day {frances}
grab a pint and make a toast to the regein of leader birch our next county board prez...
Geez dude, have you ever heard of a spell checker or is english your second language?
At least we did something in those six months. Unlike you people who do nothing but post idiotic rants against good people who are trying to make things better. All you morons do is bitch and pretend you know what you talking about.
Tom Brophy, when I said "entrenched in the community", I did not mean politically entrenched. I meant someone who has a history of ties and service to the community. Sylvia Leonberger is a great example. She has lived in Aurora for a very long time, has had multiple Girl Scout troops for forever, was on the board of United Way for 20 years, almost single-handedly passed a school referendum in 2004, and has been active with UAW for years. She is also active with her church, Catholic Charities, and numerous other civic organizations. She's a pillar of the community, people know her and they like her. And she just garnered 83% of the vote in her Kane County board election.
That's the kind of person I'm talking about. Someone who has been dedicated to his/her community for some time, not someone who once lived in the area and decided to move back to run for office. Voters rarely take kindly to capretbaggers.
That is nice for you and we do have people who are involved with our party who meet the bridget dooley sniff test. funny how you speak of carpet baggers since you are nothing more than a hired gun for a poltical hack like linda chapa lavia. you like to question john laesch well maybe because you don't even live in the district sweetie you should mind your own bussiness. the person you speak of in your post sure got allot of support because of the work we did in aurora. so if you want to take your bows stand in line since it was through our efforts that we made sure that other democrats got support. bridget that is what congressman do they lead they do not follow just a piece of advice.
Hey anon...first of all Linda Chapa LaVia is not a political hack - she's done more for Veteran's and Veteran's issues in the stae of Illinois than anyone else (obviously, that's my passion). Regarding Briget - she makes great points as well..
Briget...I wish there were Democrats in this county who are entrenched in the community as you speak. This has been such a republican community for such a long time that the "long term" democrats seem to be hiding in the woodwork. Even the newer folks don't like to vote in the primaries - particularly those who vote democratic. Look at the vote totals for democrats vs repubs in the primary. I think it was something like 10% Democratic turn-out during the last primary. In the general, Laesch got something like 45% - these numbers are only representative of my precinct - I'm not speaking for the County (I know someone will want to pick apart the numbers instead of understanding the intent). There are democrats here, they just don't want to be "known" democrats. I believe that has a lot to do with the fact that this has always been a "republican run" county.
I think that if we democrats are to be successful in getting a candidate elected in Kendall Coutny, we need to find a candidate who has lived here between 4 and 10 years. Someone who has experience in community politics and organizations, someone who has the time to offer for the job, someone who has the courage to work through the process without any help from outside Kendall County (because the State Democratic party will not help anyone here - in my opinion, they feel it's a waste of their time). We need to find ONE candidate and work to get that ONE candidate elected to an office locally. ONce that happens, then we can work on the second, third, etc... Right now, I believe the goal should be to get ONE. That would be a monumental achievement for any democrat in Kendall County.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving - I ate too much and had a wonderful time with my family and grandkids. Life is good!
Tom instead of looking for other people to run for office!!! Here is an idea why don't you grow a pair of balls and put your money where your big mouth is. You are so quick to now what the people want in a candiate and you are such an authority on local matters and how the party should run. Then here is a challenge run for office take all those wonderful ideas make your self some signs and see if you have what it takes to win the hearts and minds of the people here in kendall county. At least John Laesch had the courage to step up and seek office. Unlike you who likes to hide behind other people. Boy Tom that sure sounds like a person with allot of charctor and courage.
What is your problem? Your transparent attempts to bash Mr. Brophy, who wrote a reasonable response to Bridget, are just pathetic. Are you so immature that you must post a negitive response to everything that Tom writes? If your so sure of what the poeple want why don't you grow a pair of balls and put them where your big mouth is.
You know what is very transparent is what a joke all of the democrats in kendall county are. you run a loon for congress and now you want to run a pyscho for another office. that sounds like a real strong ticket in 08. We really have allot to fair on our side. Hey Tom we never saw you at the victory party. Hey the Christimas party is comming up we will make sure we send you an invite. please keep us posted on the prospects of running for office. Hey who knows maybe you will get 13 votes instead of 12 like your buddy jdl.
Tom Brophy is a person with feelings and we should try to respect people here at 50 miles out. I started this thread to be an honest discussion on the future of the party here in Kendall. It is my sincere hope that a good man like Tom Brophy will entertain a run for office in the near future. After the turmoil and nonsense this party needs new blood and leadership. Tom please let me know what I can do to help this party. I am pretty postive that we are real close at breaking through here in Kendall county we just need to get our act together.
To the nasty anons...It's very simply why I will never run for any elected office - I'm far to quick to tell jerk-offs like you to get fucked....besides, I'm much more comfortable knocking on doors and doing the grunt work for a good candidate. I'm not the guy for that job.
We can find good candidates - I will always maintain that John Laesch is a great candidate. What we really need to find are those great candidates who can run for the local offices. We'll get there - I think Liz Flowers can be great - she needs to get out and talk with more of the voters. Once people meet her, she might get elected. John Crawford is a great candidate. It's too bad he lives in a part of the county where most folks can't spell "DEMOCRAT" let alone vote for one. However, things are changing in District 1 as well.
This organization has been under "new leadership" for less than 9 months. I'm confident that the Kendall County Democrats will emerge as a growing force that will have to be dealt with. I also believe that we can get the biggest bang for our buck at the local level - that's at the Village, Township, and County levels.
We're not standing still, we are beginning to move forward. If you have positive ideas and a willingness to help implement and execute those ideas - some to Panera Bread on the 4th Monday of the month. We would love to hear from you.
Speaking of meetings, I've got to get ready for one tonight.
" I'm much more comfortable knocking on doors and doing the grunt work for a good candidate. I'm not the guy for that job."
Well there you have it folks one fuckin moron who claims to be an authority and the official voice of the progressive democratic party saying that the people of kendall county are beneath him. Sure sounds like it is going to be an intresting year looking forward to having a progressive come through the neiborhood throwing dog shit on houses and telling people how stupid they are!!!! Tools of the progressive trade...
Besides the truth is tom brophy is to big of a chicken shit to run for office...
Hey anon...who's the moron...perhaps you should go back and re-read what I posted. Nowhere do I say the "people of kendall county are beneath" me.
Here's the bottom line asshole - people like you are beneath me - people like you are stupid - people like you are just plain fucking idiots - people like you shouldn't be allowed the freedoms we have in this country because it's clear you don't know what to do with them.
You are a waste of fresh air - you should stop breathing it up - I'm sure I'll need it someday
So now one is to assume that not only are the people of kendall county beneath our great hero of democracy! The people of Kendall County do not deserve the rights that we as americans enjoy!!! Are we to say that for transparent sakes that tom brophy the official blogger of the progressive democratic party is speaking the party line. The people of Kendall County are fuckin idiots and they are idiots because they do not share Tom and the progressive passion for change. Tom Brophy has the final say on who is able to have rights as an american and who is not. Sounds like a pile of horse crap... anyway chicken shit you never answered the question do you have the stones to seek office after all step right up after all the dance card is full for the progressive dems and the song that is playing is loser.
See you at the christimas party Tom please bring some of your little buddies we need the entertainment.
Damn - you really are STUPID..let me copy and paste what I orginally wrote...perhaps you should read this 4 or 5 times - maybe it will sink in....
"To the nasty anons...It's very simply why I will never run for any elected office - I'm far to quick to tell jerk-offs like you to get fucked...."
I'm really not sure why that statement is so difficult to understand. I even powdered it with foul language to help you understand and never used words with a bunch of letters and stuff....
" I'm far to quick to want to jerk-off because that is my bag..."
So why don't you sniff my butt crack. I left my number for you young rebukes on the bathroom wall just give me a jingle...
Hey Tom the truth is the reason why you will not seek office is because you are scared people will not like you. It is easy to tell the world how to run it but it takes a real person to step up. Well then again you have have the courage to stand up for your convictions and run for office just a couple of things Mr. Brophy lacks courage and convictions. Oh yeah don't forget about a set of balls... This guy is nothing more than a little pussy who finds it easier to let other people fight his battles. That way he is never held accountable and he can still be the big fat chicken shit bully... Tom does that sum it up!!! You be the judge...
grab a pint and relax....
Idiot!
Tom Brophy sounds like he is scared to tell the world the truth. He is ashamed of his record as a person because he has always been the second fiddle...Always the brides maid and never the bride...Being the yes man for Jim Birch and John Laesch is the only motivation Tom has to get out of bed in the morning...His passion to be important out weighs his dedication to the voters... Tom self worth depends on wether Jim Birch will valditate his self worth...Face it Tom you do not run for office because your master will not let you...Must be miserable knowing that the people you worked so hard to be electd and become the powers that be really think you are just a joke and their bitch. Oh Boy could you please fetch me my paper... You really are just a grunt and the county bitch...
Raising Hope Along With Wages
The General Assembly in Springfield recently voted to increase the minimum wage in Illinois. This is legislation that is long overdue and I applaud some of our local legislators for recognizing that hard working people cannot afford to live on substandard wages. Area legislators Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia and Sen. John Millner are to be commended for their “Yes” votes on this issue.
Leading the local “No” votes, unsurprisingly, is Sen. Chris Lauzen. It is unfortunate that some legislators are so out of touch with the real and urgent needs of their less affluent constituents.
There are some who will argue that raising the minimum wage will hurt the very workers that are intended to benefit from increased wages. There is very clear evidence that disputes that position. In Illinois alone, raising the minimum wage in 2004 and 2005 did not hamper the economy. In fact, job growth grew and unemployment fell.
Research over the past decade actually shows that modest hikes to keep the low-paid abreast of inflation will cost few if any jobs. Raising the federal minimum wage in 1997 did nothing to slow down the amazing period of job creation and economic expansion that was a hallmark of the 1990’s.
At the national level, even some long time opponents of raising the minimum wage have has a change of heart including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers, and the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors.
Raising the minimum wage in Illinois is the right thing to do for our hard working citizens, both on an economic level, but more importantly, on a moral level.
lAY OFF OF TOM BROPHY, IT IS SOOOO OBVIOUS , YOU ARE INTIMIDATED BY HIS ABILITY TO ORGANIZE.NOT TO MENTION A PERSONAL VENDETTA. SOMEBODY HAS TO BE THE INDIAN, HE IS A DEDICATED DEM, WHO HELPS ALL DEM CANDIDATES, WHO WILL LET HIM, HE CAN'T HELP THE ONE'S WHO REFUSE AND WOULDN'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT TO DO, IN THE EVENT THEY WERE ACCIDENTALLY ELECTED. WE NEED BONIFIED CANDIDATES, NOT JUST PEOPLE WHO WILL AGREE TO BE A "FILLER" THAT IS NOT FAIR TO THE VOTERS. TOTAL WASTE OF TIME.KEN MUSICH, WOULD NOT EVEN GRANT AN INTERVIEW FOR THE NEWSPAPER. oR SHOW UP FOR THE WSPY DEBATE. I SEE WHY THE FORMER CHAIR WAS VOTED OUT. SOMEBODY HAD TO DO SOMETHING, TO STOP SUCH NONSENSE. DOESN'T TAKE A HARVARD GRAD. TO READ BETWEEN THE LINES. ALL THE HATE IS SOO OBVIOUS. JUST JEALOUS AND BRUISED EGO'S. SUCK IT UP!!THE BIRCH GUY CAN'T DO ANY WORSE.IF SOME WANT TO BELIEVE ALL THE LIES AND GOSSIP, SO BE IT.
TOM BROPHY, TOM BROPHY, TOM BROPHY , TOM BROPHY, TOM BROPHY, tommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... brophyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!TOM BROPHY>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Yawwwnnnnn...
Is it time to start bashing the next group of canidates yet?
Wait up...their turn will come. Everybody has to pay their dues...
We have gotten off topic here attacking people is not the proper way to help have a disscussion in terms of helping the local party. People on both sides of the fence should just take a step back take a breath and look at the postives that were accomplished. Contriubtions by all involved need to be observed. It is with hope that people can look at the bigger picture and move forward.
The work must start now if we want to win in 08.
Please go here and lite a candle!!
https://www.lighttounite.org/
Thanks!
wow anon are you saying that this is a lost cause. If this is really how you feel then please reach out to party leaders.
OK Folks - if you want to see the Democratic Party continue to move forward in Kendall County, we need to come up with some cadidates who are viable within our community. We can't continue to put names on a ballot just because we can. That serves no purpose and ultimately causes embarassment to the party as a whole.
The problem, as I see it, in Kendall County is that the republican party is so entrenched here that good democrats won't come out of the closet. To my knowledge, there is only 1 elected official in the County (excluding Montgomery - I theink they have 1 as well) and that person doesn't even acknowledge that they are a democrat. The only way of knowing is to look at voting records because the person is in a non-partisan position.
I believe that with growth comes change. This won't happen over night, however, we have an ability to shape the future of Kendall County politics. We, as democrats, must remain active and visible. We need to ensure that anyone moving into this county knows that there is a democratic presence here - no matter the size of it. We need to ensure that anyone moving here or living here can feel comfortable in the fact that there are democrats here who are working to get democrats elected to office.
I'm not sure how to get that done, I know there are many options to cause this to happen. As a group, we need to figure out what is the best way of doing that. Once we get our compass working right, we also need to have the flexibility to change course if things don't go the way we envisioned them. I think there is a great team in place to facilitate that - we need more people and more ideas. We've moved past the primary and the general elections. Now we need to continue to move the Democratic Party forward. It's a lot of work but it's achievable.
Who wants to help?
Tom- you seem to have some great idea's... however I submit to you that one must becomed alarmed after reading your prior post. you spend a great deal of time saying in one breath that you want new people to become involved and in the next breath you say that democrats need to be careful who they let run for office. This sounds like a divesive measure by you and other members in leadership to hold power because they are afraid of change. How can the party grow with this idealogy being the basis for party building. Admitting defeat before the election sounds to be very counter protective in trying to elect people here in kendall county. A sense of community sounds like community activsimn only can be sactioned by the powers that be... ie the central committee... so please forgive my igorance on this subject at hand but to the average person it sounds like you are in the bussiness of wanting to build a monarch that you will be able to control and influence... sounds like allot of power grabbing on the part of the progressive democrats...by the tone of your post you really do not want new idea's but rather a bunch of yes people who will do your bidding... Sorry Mr.Brophy this is america and in america if one chooses to seek office then it is their right. This is not russia contray to your suggestion... if you want your voice heard and rights respected then why don't you learn to respect other people's. Or is your intention to wipe your behind with the consituion...
Hey anon...perhaps you should re-read what I wrote....
Nowhere did I suggest that the "central committee" or the "progressives" control who runs for office. I am suggesting that our challenge is to find candidates who are "QUALIFIED" for the office they are running for. From the tone of your e-mail, I have to believe that you are one of the few disgruntled democrats who worked with the old chairman.
Now that the election is over, let me tell you about the candidates that he chose -
Ken Musich - he is one of the nicest guys in the world. One of the hardest working committeemen and a very dedicated democrat. He has no business runni9ng for any political office. If Marty's intention was to embarass the party - he did a great job - 2 ELECTION CYCLES IN A ROW. Did anyone not connected to Marty wonder why Ken never showed up for the WSPY debate or ever give an interview to any of the papers? He's absolutely one of the nicesest, kindest, men on this earth - but shouldn't run for any elected office - that would not only be a disservice to the community, but it is to him as well.
Ruby Gregg - another long time democrat who is also one of the nicest persons on this earth. She may have been great for any elected office 10 or 15 years ago - I don't know - I've only known her for 4 years. What I do know is that she didn't even know she was running for the County Board when I spoke to her about it. Again, like Ken, having her name on the ballot was a disservice to the community and to Ruby.
There is nothing divisive here - we need people who not only have the DESIRE to run for an office, but posess the QUALIFICATIONS for that office as well. Putting a name on a ballot for the sake of filling up the ballot doesn't serve anyone or any purpose. If we want to get people elected, we need to find the candidate who fits well into the position. Liz Flowers was a great choice - I think she can be elected. We need more people who are willing to run for municipal and township positions. We need more people who are willing and qualified to run for the school board, park district board, and library board. We need to start LOCALLY. I think we are headed in that direction. We need more people with good ideas and we need help recruiting the right candidates who are right for the position.
It sounds to me like you have something to say...come to one of our meetings and share your knowledge with us. We look forward to all of the suggestions we can get. If all you want to do if attempt to find a public forum to blast the current party leaders...stay home.
I trust everyone will have a great holiday!
Tom you are not serious about seeing the democratic party succeed here in kendall county. Keep attacking people with the courage to seek office because you are jealous because you do not have the balls to run your self... You absoultley have no creditablity so take your pack of lies back to your little camp fire council... This comming from the man who claims to be best friends with Barrack Obbma... Tom peddle your bullshit elese where... The truth is this party has no leadership this party has no support. This party has no plan on getting democrats elected. In fact they are already conceding the 08 election just read the beacon news in monday where his qualified candiate John Laesch attacks the party and says there is no way for democrats to win...Tom quit wasting the time of the voters and do the party a favor and resign from your post... In fact Tom you are the embarrssement to the party after all you were publicly thrown out of a meeting for the veterans affairs...Tom you are a joke and an embarrsement to the world a coward with no courage and no convictions a scared little man who never got to be important...
Have a happy holiday season and please thank a Real Veteran Tom someone who really served our country... Unlike you!!!!1
DUH! I'm still amazed that there are so many people in this district who will vote for this guy. He clearly chose to protect his party and his president over those kids.
What's that saying about "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts, absolutely"...
Four years ago, Democrat Linda Chapa LaVia won the state House seat in Aurora. In November, Michael Noland of Elgin won a state Senate seat, as did Linda Holmes of Aurora, and Pat Perez won the race for Kane County sheriff, becoming the first Democrat to win a countywide race in Kane in a decade.
In addition, recent experience in Illinois has shown that Democrats can win in heavily Republican districts, given the right circumstances.
After her upset victory over a weakened Phil Crane in 2004, U.S. Rep. Melissa Bean spent two years burnishing her moderate credentials, then turned around and beat wealthy conservative David McSweeney this year in a district that is just as Republican as Hastert's.
None of that is likely to matter much if Democratic Party leaders such as U.S. Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Chicago, the head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, take a pass on the 14th District race, as they did this year.
An underfunded John Laesch collected only 40 percent of the vote against Hastert in November, although that was the best showing of any Hastert opponent since his first run for office. Laesch wouldn't rule out running again, but said Democrats need to field their best candidate, whoever that may be.
Like others, he said Chapa LaVia and Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner are potential Democratic contenders.
"I think Chapa LaVia's pretty serious about it," he said.
Laesch said there is no guarantee Democratic leaders will open up the money spigot and get involved.
"I still think that's up in the air," he said, noting that the 14th District is "still very heavily Republican."
Finally some postive press for democrats then we have to hear from such a qualified person like Good Ole JDL Hey Brophy more back stabbing tatics in line this seems to be the MO of the progressive party...
Let's go backward this time...anon #3....where in the hell did you read anything even close to "back stabbing" in the statements made by Laesch? He said LCLV is "serious" about running....that's a fact....he said Weisener is a "contender"....that's a fact...I don't see anything negative about those statements. They are both great candidates (and so is Laesch).
Regarding the "money spigot"....you and I both know that's referring to the DNC, the DCCC, and the state democratic party. Those organizations have NEVER supported any democrat running for an office in this county - EVER.
There's no "back stabbing" in statement you attribute to John Laesch.
To anon #2...I'm glad to see you've been visiting the KCD website. I have no idea what you're trying to accomplish in cutting and pasting a post I made there, but what the hell, I consider the source. You're a cowardly idiot - no worries.
To anon #1...you're absolutely nuts! I'm "jealoous"...really?...I claim to be "best friends with Barrack Obbma..." (you need to learn how to spell)...where in the world did that come from (that's delusional)...we've already "conceded" the 2008 election...that's news to me - you idiot!....and finally,..."thank a Real Veteran Tom someone who really served our country... Unlike you!!!!"...that doesn't even deserve a respone.
All you have to offer anon #1 is bullshit and venom. Please attempt to be constructive. Anon #3 made some valid arguments about the DCCC and Rahm Emanuel..you, in my opinion, have nothing to offer. You are a waste of fresh air - you're breathing up that which others may need in the future!
If you want to help, show up at a meeting and let us in on your ideas. If all you want to do is bitch - join the Young Repugs...
Tom- You must be on Tom Cross list of important contacts here in Kendall County. It sure sounds like you would rather not have democrats elected than have them elected. You insist that you have the best intrest of the party at hand then go out and undermine party leadership but undermine the mere princepals of what a precinct committeeman is intended do. You relish your role of spoiler in helping to torpedo viabale democrats with your lies and hatred of democratic success. You choose to particpate more with the kendall county republicans and offer only back handed complaining about the local democratic party. Tom which way is it either the party is going to succeed or you are now willing to become a republican. All you want to do is be one of the power brockers here in the county and you know what they say power corrupts. Tom your motives and intentions are simple to undermine the democratic party and make sure your friend Tom Cross is elected so you will have a voice for people to do you your favors. As a real progressive I find this to be distasteful and disgusting. I supported and defended you here several times but watching your actions over the past few months calls into question your loyality to the Democratic party and progressive values. You are nothing more than a liar who offers no concrete proof of his lies and false charges against his own party. We need people here in Kendall county who are serious about progressive values and want democrats elected. We do not need to be in the back pocket of Tom Cross and the republicans...Thank you for playing Tom Bendict Arnold...
That is the kind of Back stabbing poltics that you and good ole JDL like to play...
Hey anon...first of all, go back to 2nd grade and get a refresher in grammar and spelling....you idiot!
After you finish with the grammar and spelling classes, perhaps you can work on your reading comprehension skills...I'm not bashing democrats...you are the one tossing out the usubstantiated inuendo and bullshit...I wonder, who do you see when you look in the mirror - I'm certain you're delusional!
Get back on your meds and have a nice day!
With your quick attacks and your attempt to change the subject speaks volumes. You have no honor sir and if you were still in the miltary and one still wonders if you ever served you would be court marshalled... Make fun of people all you want you little scared man who needs to beat up on the less fortunate to make himself feel better...Boy sounds allot like a republican here...
please go to your AA meetings...
Hey anon...I guess it is true - you really are less fortunate that I - you're really an IDIOT.
Talk about quick attacks, that's all you jerk offs do - if you want to talk about the Kendall Coutny Democratic Party - do it - if you want to continue with this bullshit - go to the next young repug meeting.
we should all be thinking of Sen. johnson [D ]South Dakota, pray that he recovers from brain surgery. if he goes, the repubs. will be in control again. victory can be sweet, but can be taken away, so quickly. peace
No in fact Tom lets talk about the party and how you are going to unseat your friends with republican party. Won't Tom cross be upset if you try to knock off his allies. You spend a great deal of time complaining about your own party. Quit trying to paint a rossie picture of the role that you really want to play... in fact tom any time you want to come to one of our meetings and spread you cheer about your luntiac ideas of current events give boyd a call... after all Tom we thank you for all your hard work in helping to promote unity and a stable working enviorment for us all... please keep attending the AA meetings after all this must be a hard time of the year for you...Bottoms up!!!
"No in fact Tom lets talk about the party and how you are going to unseat your friends with republican party"....what the hell does that mean. "Unseat your friends with republican party"...I gotta say, I don't have a clue what that means. Maybe you should stop the crack and go back to school...the ability to formulate a complete, coherent sentance can take you a long way in life. Did you ever make it past the 2nd grade?
Ya gotta love it...young repug with a 1st grade reading level.
By the way - I gave you some ammo there - the question is....can you find it?
Tom spending your day trying to prove how intelligent only means that you must be taking a break from building your pipe bombs or playing with your self in your basement... Funny thing is the only ammo that you pack is that funny whit cake on your hands... As far as a 1st grade edcuation well thank you private school is great... my kids love it and are getting a fine edcuation... One question does it hurt when you tug on your little pipe well of course not you must be to drunk to know what is going on... oh wait or do you eat paint chips... Got love a man with no friends no life and delusional sense of importance... Well have a nice day don't drink to much...
Hey you little jerk-off heres to you kissing my big fat ass"DUH! I'm still amazed that there are so many people in this district who will vote for this guy. He clearly chose to protect his party and his president over those kids.
What's that saying about "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts, absolutely"...
John Laesch is God and I still think he is the man... If you want to support a worthless back of shit be my guess...life is to short and through the leadership of a new order there will be hope!!!! Thanx A vet because we are the ones who preserve yourfreedom... COWARDS!!!!!
why don't you two, just duke it out down at the o.k. corral? or shout it out over two wired mrtal can"s? how about a good pillow fight? you two, sound worse than two chicks fighting!!! It's all about, who is a YES , guy to Cross, or Denny. a bit paranoid..aye? stay with the R's. Dems will never succeed with such blogging. as a former Marine, I am aware why we served. I don't expect folks to humble down to me. I volunteered. as most middle class do.No ROTC for me. praise the lord and pass the nail file!!
The Young repukes and Tom Brophy arguement does not further the advancement of the demo chances here in kendall county. In fact it only hurts our chances when people get on these threads and begin to spread a pack of crap. The party here is a mess and if we want this party to ever be able to flourish then others will have step up. The county is changing and democrats can win here if they just step up. Instead of having all these small special intrests groups running around maybe the time has come for a real party to unite and win.
Being honest is a two way street if the young republicans are part of this discussion then we should take another look at the topic at hand; to include them. Here is a question that should be asked! If Denny knew about the scandals and did nothing about it what should be done to make sure justice is being done? Also a question to Tom you seem very passionate about the party however with a chance for democrats here in kendall what are the plans for the central committee to counter the 2to 1 margin we face come a general election? Also please respect others peoples views this is not helping matters; instead lets have a real dialogue to help understand the climate of poltics in this county.
I don't look at the all volunteer military the same as I used to look at the old military. The all volunteer military is populated by soldiers of fortune - mercenaries. Just like the Hessians in our Revolutionary War.
I don't see why I have to respect someone just because they are a soldier... By that same token we should respect soldiers from EVERY country - they all fight for what they believe in.
I don't respect William Calley who conducted the Mi Lai Massacre in 1971 and I don't respect the soldiers who committed the same, if not worse attrocities at Abu Ghraib. The good old U.S. of A. has managed to start a big money business of WAR and they hire people who want to go to war - people who want to kill. Those are the kind of people we generally lock up. I don't respect those people. So TOM BROPHY, if you want to call me a coward because I was sane enough NOT to join our Soldier of Fortune / Hessian / Mercenary Army, then go right ahead you nut job.
And I waked in and sat down and they gave
me a piece of paper, said, "Kid, see the phsychiatrist, room 604."
["And I went up there, I said, "Shrink, I want to kill. I mean, I wanna, I wanna kill. Kill. I wanna, I wanna see, I wanna see blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. I mean kill, Kill, KILL, KILL." And I started jumpin up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL," and he started jumpin up and down with me and we was both jumping up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL." And the sargent came over, pinned a medal on me, sent me down the hall, said, "You're our boy."] ARLO GUTHRIE ALICES RESTAURANT
To all - the last "Tom Brophy" post wan't from me...it's obvious the "little jerks" are at it again. This is really a waste of time...the discussion started out well but then degrades to nonsense.
How do you include someone in a discussion when they don't discuss anything? These numbnuts move the topics to nonsense...I really believe that's their intention and they continue to do it. Ya gotta wonder...why participate?
Have a wonderful holiday
Tom- I see your point this this thread started out with some postive discussion. It turned into a circus where several people posted to interupt this discussion. There is a postive point that can be made we can see the repukes and their young repukes have nothing to debate the issues with other than name calling.
You have tried to hold up your end of the bargin with postive feedback and your own point of view. Although again Tom I disagree with your take on several matters. Attacking fellow democrats is counter productive to the cause. Instead when you take the time to lay out your arguement you are very succesful in getting your point across. Do not be so quick to judge people but rather embrass there differnces and understand what is the quality of diversity. Keep posting because you have several good points; and understand that defending yourself and your right to speak is a basic right we all share.
To the young repukes here is a question that I will throw out to the blogspere- Why is it that when a republican is losing an argument that they insist on name calling? It is very childish and lends no creditablity to your point that you are trying to make.
Mr. Boskas,
I really don't "attack" fellow democrats. I strongly disagree with the lack of support given by the DCCC and the state democratic party in Kendall County. I appears to me that those organizations feel we are a lost cause. If they would spend the time to look at the numbers, I believe they would see that "times are a changin'" The sad truth is that we will have to go it alone for a while, my guess is until the democratic vote surpasses 50%. I also believe that their lack of monetary support hurts to a degree - what hurts more is the fact that these knuckleheads won't even come out and stand with any candidates in support of that candidate. I can't believe that these guys won't even verbally endorse a candidate. Durbin and Obama dis the job of Madigan during this last election cycle - they came out in support of candidates - Madigan NEVER did.
As an organization, we need to take the county one municipality at a time. We need to take it one seat at a time - whether that seat is on a Library Board, School District Board Park District Board, Township Board, or Village Board. That's where we need to start. Once we get that, we can recruit more qualified candidates for the County Board, State Rep, State Senator. We had some great candidates this time around - too bad Linda Holmes was the only one to succeed. Frank Craig and Joe Serra would have been great additions as well. I'm grateful we have Linda Holmes in the State Senate.
We have some very qualified candidates circulating petitions for the Yorkville City Council and the Oswego Village Board. I'm hopeful we can make something happen there.
We need fresh faces, fresh ideas, and more people participating in the organization. We need to build stronger precinct organizations to help our GOTV activities. Our challenge will be finding QUALIFIED candidates for the next round of local offices.
I'm hopeful we can make things happen.
Tom- you really must be desperate if you are now on your knees sucking the republican DICK. Once again you are such a genious lets back a group of republicans and call ourselves democrats. Does Tom Cross pay your mortage now... Come on Tom tell the truth you are a turn coat piece of crap who only backs who the boys at the grand old party tells you too. You have your nose stuck so far up the republicans ass you must know what they had for lunch. So know that JDL is off in the woods licking his chops from the ass wiping he got you went out and found a new master and his name is Tom Cross... Is he paying you in gold or silver Bendict Aronld. Grow up and face the facts you will never have any authority in either the democratic party or the republican party you are nothing more than the county bitch...
HRC, you're MIA again! I hope everything is okay.
Hey anon...you really do need to get back on the meds and off the crack...where in the hell did you get the "republican" and "Tom Cross" bullshit from?
You children really can't have any conversation - please tell me who you get to explain what the words with more than 2 syllables means to yo - or do you use a dictionary to look up the meaning of those words?
You worthless jerk-offs really do need to get a life.
Well there he is again making his point by using foul lanuage and has no defense.
No wonder real Democrats in Kendall have gone underground -- with folks like Mr. Brophy purporting to speak for the masses, substandard candidates like JDL and loudmouths who'd rather open their foul mouths than do anything constructive what do you expect? And no I'm not a Republican, just a Kendall Dem who wants NOTHING to do with the present inmates who are running the asylum -- may they all leave the county by 2008!
Substandard candidates like JDL? Are you serious? He is intelligent, articulate and more!! He was NOT illiterate. he realized he was a candidate!!. That's worth a lot in Kendall. i can't say the same for all that was signed on for the county board this year. I don't know Tom brophy, but after all the vulgar post accusing him of unmentionable acts, I can understand why anyone would blast the one's who posted such crude remarks. has my curosity up. like to meet the guy. I heard such lies about JDL, I was pleased to learn he is not what was portrayed and made fun of, unmercifully. A reporter wrote he too was pleased to find an articulate man, as he had also, heard different. . I don't think the new group is going to leave the county. {wishful thinking}.Another man, chose to seek being chair, and is working to change a situation, that was long over due to be dismantled. They will succeed in getting a Dem elected. Determination pays off.Negative ,hate mongers are miserable, and misery loves company. Some just don't getit, that-when 2 people are seeking the same office in an election, only ONE can be the winner. there will be another day to choose. nobody has a lifetime monopoly on chair in Kendall County. It's not like the Royals..a right at birth,,handed down.. If Bill Clinton or Obama, had ran ,they too would have been portrayed as imbeciles along with the new chair in office., winners never lose and losers never win.some loser's are perpetual wound licker's. Time to move on to the future, yesterday is gone.Whiner's Whiner's.here's a quarter call someone who cares.
Wel, The old chair done got himself a DUI, now him and Bush got something in common.
So, what? don't laugh, [if it's true]what goes around comes around. you could be next.He has my support.
Check out this weeks ledger right there in black and white. All started with him being drunk and obnoxious at a democratic candidates xmas party, classy!
iT WAS ALSO IN THE bEACON NEWS...A LESSON TO US ALL..SAY no TO THE BOTTOMS UP AND NEVER TAKE JAB'S AT THE ONE'S WHO GO TO aa MEETINGS. sORRY, THAT HE DIDN'T HAVE A DRIVER. hIS MOM, HAS ENOUGH TO ENDURE WITH HER HEALTH. AND NOW THIS.I REGRET THIS HAPPENED AND THANKFUL INNOCENT MOTORIST WERE NOT INVOLVED. HOPE HE COOLS HIS JETS, WHAT A SHAME,,
Unfortunately I also met JDL, many, many times. The only explanation I can offer for anyone thinking he's articulate is that he/she has never heard someone who is. Frankly, after shaking hands with JDL one wants nothing more than to go home & take a bath. Strangely, having raised several hundred times more money than Zamora did in 2004 produced nearly 10,000 fewer votes -- how do you spell DISENCHANTED?
you spell it the same way as an unemployed, part-time teach would. zamora was beatin the primary, if JDL was such a turn-off, that you felt dirty shaking his hand, why were you around him so much.? anything to get the attention off the smahed grape..getting canned!...I see..
You can't compare the vote totals from a presidential election year with an off year. Voter percentage is always lower in an off year. You need to look at percentage of the vote. By that measure John pulled an additional 9-10 points off of Hastert than Ruben did. Both are good guys and smart candidates who happened to be swimming against the GOP tide in the area. That too shall pass.
Because I happen to be an active Democrat who was involved long before JDL ever arrived on the scene -- he's the interloper here. It's a free country, in case you've forgotten; I didn't invite him but he had a right to be wherever he chose. And as for vote totals, if people really wanted to see JDL elected, they would have come out regardless -- there were many other reasons (like school bond issues, other races, etc.) to be there if it truly mattered.
John Laesch has never stopped running and if you ask me it will be better if he keeps up his run. Allot people can say what they wan't but the truth is it is a new ball game now. We are not faceing the speaker but just another repuke. Democrats need to rally to the best person and that is John Laesch.
I agree. his theme song should be "GO, JOHNNY, GO!!" the old chuck berry rock n roll tune. do not expect any support from 95% of the 5 or 6 who post here. I think he would make a great rep. for the 14th district.
Democrats should keep an eye on the best person for the postion. John has proven himself to be a weak candiate at best. Is anyone elese thinking about running lets give some other people the oportunity to run as well.
